A huge thank you to the volunteers for our Studio Bell Field Trip! It was an  amazing  experience and we could not have done it with out you! Family Literacy Day  “Family literacy activities strengthen the relationship between family members which, in turn, encourages lifelong learning.” Royal Oak School will be recognizing Family Literacy Day on  Monday January 27th.  Students are invited to wear pajamas, bring a stuffy and a favourite book to share with a friend. Regular curricular activities will continue on this day so please make sure your child wears pajamas that allow them to participate in recess, gym, etc (no footed pajamas or nightgowns) Further information and ideas for home can be found at  www.familyliteracyday.ca Inquiry: Students are designing their own musical instruments. January 13th - 17th

Literacy: This week students focused on creating dioramas for their fractured fairytales. Students are going to practice orally telling their stories before they begin writing them. As we move forward, students will be introduced to the 'Writing Diamond', as a template for their story writing. Math: We read the book "Decibella' and students created their own subtraction word problems to solve, using the CUBES strategy. Inquiry: We continue to explore India and Peru, as well as hearing and sound. Students got to present their Google Slides on their research into either Peru or India. They also got to create their own pan pipes, crazy kazoos and investigate string instruments, jars with water and tuning forks.  Field Trip: Our field trip to Studio Bell is this coming Tuesday, January 21st. Students will need to arrive on time, as we would like to load the bus right away and depart for Studio Bell around 9:15am. I could still use one mo

I hope everyone had a restful and fantastic winter break with your families! Our first week back was great, despite the cold weather making indoor recesses. It is always nice to get back into routine. Thank you to all of you for your thoughtful gifts and well wishes, it was all greatly appreciated. Studio Bell field trip forms were sent home this week, in two parts, unfortunately. Please return the signed forms to school at your earliest convenience.  Our class is still in need of three volunteers. We have been reading and listening to various fairytales ( The Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk ) and breaking them down into their elements.
