Thistle the Hedgehog
The students helped compose this part of the blog:
We have a special class pet that is a hedgehog and her name is Thistle. She is nice and soft but can be spiky when she is scared or when it is too loud. She likes to eat mealworms. She needs a lot of attention.
I am so happy that Thistle is part of our classroom community. She is a pretty well mannered hedgehog and loves the attention from the students. As we get to know Thistle, I am allowing students to take her home for the weekend. If this is something your family is interested in, then please let me know. The only thing your family will need to supply is the love and attention to her. Her enclosure is a fairly large glass tank that she will need to be transported in, so if you are interested she will need to be picked up from school so I can supply you with all of her needs.

Math
In math this week, we have been working on organizing information in a way that makes it easy to read and understand.
Inquiry
We continue to learn about the difference between a need and want. Students were challenged to take all the needs and create a list, starting from the most important to least. Check out their post in Iris and ask your student to explain their reasoning.
Students have been learning in more detail about the many layers of the earth through the lens of an environmental geologist. We have been reading articles about earthquakes and tectonic plates. As students read they are making mind maps and think marks to deepen their understand of what they are reading.
Halloween
On Thursday, October 31st, students are encouraged to wear their halloween costumes. I thought it would be a fun science experiment to make slime on this day. If possible, can you send a small plastic container to school (labeled with your child's name) with your child to store their slime.
Thank you!
