December 2nd - 6th

Hi families, it is hard to believe it is already December!

The students have been busy finishing up their scientific conclusions and earthquake centres, as well as working on multiplication and shapes. It has been a very busy few weeks!

First of all....

ATP:

We all had an amazing time watching the ATP performance of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe. Thank you so much to the ROS Parent Council for the fantastic opportunity. As well, thank you to the parent volunteers who made it possible for us to go, and a big shout out to your children for their respectful behaviour during the play.

Report Cards:

We will be moving to online report cards this year.  This will help us save much needed money for other uses within the school.  At the end of the day on December 17th, PowerSchool will allow parents to log in and see their child’s report card for this first term (see directions below).  Your child’s report card can be printed or saved for later viewing.  For those that feel they need a hard copy, please contact the office for this request.

How to Access Digital Report Cards

  •  Click on “Report Card  open”
  • Save to pdf or print for your records

Math:

We continue to work on multiplication. Students have been demonstrating their understanding in multiple ways, such as; repeated addition sentences, arrays, circles and dots and on an open number line.

Literacy:

Students continue to work in their community of readers each morning. In these groups, students have been developing strategies for comprehension. Such as summarizing and finding important information. We have also been working on the elements of story and genre. Students will begin writing their own fiction stories following the format of a fairytale or folktale.

During read to self and write to self, many students have decided to make informative posters for the classroom and school :) So proud of them!

Inquiry:

We have been learning about our role as Canadians and what it means to be a global citizen. Students learned about the United Nations and Canada's role as peacekeepers for other countries. With this is mind, students took the time to create beautiful snowflake art for holiday cards. They wrote messages for the Canadian Troops who are serving overseas and will be away from family and friends over the holidays. I have mailed the cards, so troops will be able to see how much they are appreciated.
