What a great first full week of school! Thank you so much for sharing your children with me. It has been fantastic meeting and learning about each and every one of them.

Math

Students worked on reviewing their knowledge from Grade 2 in order to build a solid foundation for math in Grade 3. They worked together to build, pull apart, and rebuild numbers ranging from 0-1000 using Friendly Numbers, Explosion Math and Open Number Lines. If you'd like to continue practicing at home - ask your student about Number Bonds and Friendly Numbers or Adding on open number lines!

Literacy
Students have began exploring Poetry - looking specifically at the Elements of Poetry. Students were introduced to elements such as alliteration, simile, imagery, onomatopoeia, and rhyming - challenge them to give you an example of one of the elements. Students read and analyzed a variety of poems while looking at each element in order to fully understand it. They were then challenged to apply that element in their own piece of poetry! We will continue this work next week.

Inquiry
During inquiry, students began their work as Geologists. We began our work by sorting and categorizing our name rocks - students worked together to create criteria in order to group rocks together. Some examples: shape, size, weight. Next, we practiced our skill of sketching rocks

Please have your child bring in 3 rocks that they find from around the community. Please do not bring in any rocks that hold special meaning, because it will be awful if they go missing. As well, please ensure that the rocks are from around the area and not from a vacation destination :)

As well, please remember to book your conference and fill in your student question form.

Thank you and have a wonderful weekend
